A War to Overcome

Guest post by a former pastor,  Mickey Huff

Brother Huff was featured in my “Second Chances” post. I thought I would feature a couple of his writings which I found interesting.  Hope you enjoy this first one. I have one more that I will post later.

Matthew 11:12: “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the Kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by Force.”

You can read a scripture and read a scripture and finally, it will take hold of you. You begin to see something. Here the Bible is talking about violent people taking something by force. Every person’s life is a struggle at its best. I have never found it any different; life is a struggle. It is warfare, no matter how you look at it. Just for a man to exist in this world, he is always in a struggle. He is in a warfare.  He has to come to grips with something that is determined from the time he is born in this world until he dies.

From the moment you are born, death begins to work in your members; life is a struggle, a warfare. Some will win, and most are going to lose. It is according to the determination — many times of the individual. So it is in the Christian race, there are those that when the battle gets hard and the heat gets on, they immediately turn aside and busy themselves with other things.  But you can not escape life, no matter how hard you try.

There is an enemy who has determined that not a man or woman or a boy or a girl will ever make it through. Hell has set itself against you to make sure that you are lost at the end.

Luke 22:31: “And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon, behold satan hath desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat.”

But the devil dogged you, tricked you, fought you, pushed you, and until you make up your mind that he is not going to stop, that you are going to have to do war with him in the spirit, you are never going to get anywhere with God.

James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God, Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Ephesians 4:27: “Neither give place to the devil.”

1 Peter 4:12-13: “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you. But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.”

The church is the light of the world. Let us turn the light on and we will see its darkness flee. It will never happen until there is enough courage in us to stand up and begin to take hold of it and manifest (proclaim) Christ. Millions only wait to hear and they will be saved. We can win if we have within us  the “win” to win. We don’t have to be defeated. Seventy-five years before Abraham died, God told Abraham he was going to make it. God said if we will overcome, He will not blot our name out. This is a spiritual book. If you don’t overcome, He will blot your name out. But Jesus said, because I have overcome, you can overcome.

John 16:33: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

1 John 5:4-5: “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world, and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”

Revelation 21:7: “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”

For the Christian our life is a struggle to overcome satan and to give glory to God. This can only be accomplished through the intervention of the Holy Spirit and our faith in Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
